Your Headache Could Be TMJ Condition - Try This

Here's how to find out if this could be your problem, and if so, what to do about it.
Your TMJ can cause pain for many reasons, especially if you grind your teeth at night, carry tension in your jaw, or put repeated pressure on the joint.
You may initially feel that you have a headache, especially in the crown or temples.
This is because the pressure on the joint is affecting nerves that may refer pain to these areas.
Some patients report ringing in the ears or dizziness.
Your doctor may do a CT scan to rule out possible causes.
An experienced chiropractor or dentist may be more likely to suggest a TMJ diagnosis.
In addition, you may be instructed to give your jaws a rest by eating soft foods, limiting mouth movements when talking, and not yawning widely.
Many doctors recommend over-the-counter pain relievers, or may prescribe stronger pain relievers or muscle relaxers.
Alternative treatments may include a visit to a massage therapist, accupuncturist, or accupressurist who can relieve pain by treating pressure points.
Using a mouth guard is a controversial treatment; some doctors insist it's necessary and others believe it can make matters much worse.
And never consent to any type of surgery for TMJ without a second opinion.
